I played the Saturday afternoon freeroll at our local charity card room. 115 started, and I finished SECOND! I was playing extremely well at the first break, and most of my opponents were taking the add-on, so I did as well. It was worth it: the finish ultimately netted me more than ten times the cost.
I played the best poker I ever have. I got lucky when best hands held up, and I can honestly say I was not in a single hand I should not have been in. I kicked myself a couple of times for folding nice draws that would have hit big, but the odds weren't quite right, and I'd rather be out of a hand I should be in than in a hand I should be out of.
Ultimately, a little more patience might have beaten my inebriated opponent heads up, but I pushed a middle king into a check pre-flop, only to run into fives. He improved to a set before I paired my king and we were done.
It's probably for the best; his wife had been hounding him for HOURS to get home (via regular phone calls to his designated driver - I wouldn't wanna be THAT guy!) and I'm sure having the winnings in his pocket must have eased his passage out of the dog house. Poker karma: I'm OK with second if that's the case!
This morning I couldn't sleep, and entered the HORSE freeroll on PokerStars. I finished 12th out of 4608 players for entry into round two this weekend.
I have a post in the works regarding math and a positive EV situation I've discovered on PokerStars, but it requires a little less of a tired brain than I have right now. I hope to have it done soon!
